OLDER WORK 2011 - 2014
Water is not only a strong symbol for emotion; it also provides the perfect setting for “saying” much more about a figurative subject and the human condition. For me it’s a rich visual metaphor for the transparency, sensuality, vulnerability, freedom and exposure of the human experience – and emotions we confront in everyday life. We can all relate to this experience of being immersed in water and the beautiful patterns produced by the reflection and movement of the surface, with its distortive properties, enhance the emotional qualities of the image. You are invited in on a private moment. Cathryn's 2014 exhibition, “Days Like These” examines the experience of being alone with our feelings or, considering the experience of others. Good moments or bad moments - we all have days like these.
